The topic of Canon Law is often slighted by those in ecclesiastical circles as an unfortunate remnant of Church legalism which only stifles the spirit of the Gospel by a return to the burden of the law.
The Church's law, however, exists for only one reason; the salvation of souls. The law of the Church is meant to create space for charity to reign in the relationships of the members of the Body of Christ. Every year the Pope gives an address to the Church's highest juridical court, the Roman Rota. These addresses are surprisingly rich in their content and present day relevance. They are germane to a deeper penetration of the truth which reaches beyond the polemics and false dichotomies which swirl around our newspapers and media.
I hope the presentation of these addresses from 1979 to the present will be fruitful in your endeavor to come to know Jesus Christ and His love for man.
