Moreover, they contain the very reality of which they are a sign!

Thus, if the Mass is "not a figure or representation of Christ's sacrifice" (as you say), then it cannot contain Christ's sacrifice... since the sacraments can only make re-present that reality which they also represent.

Thus, the sacrament and the reality are one -- Sign and Reality are united.

However, as there will be no sacraments in heaven, because the reality will be immediately present; in a similar way, we do not celebrate Mass on Good Friday...for we are present in an even more immediate way at the Sacrifice of Calvary on that day.

Hope this helps.
Peace.Father Ryan Erlenbushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07557817305024750902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-90711931579445513202010-11-18T04:56:50.970-08:002010-11-18T04:56:50.970-08:00Hmmm...I don't totally agree with Aquinas sinc...Hmmm...I don't totally agree with Aquinas since the Mass is not a figure or representation of Christ's sacrifice...it IS the one and the same offering of Calvary made present in an unbloody manner. Surely the sanctity and significance of Good Friday cannot override or outweigh the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-85365625802980907672010-09-30T22:31:09.635-07:002010-09-30T22:31:09.635-07:00Further discussion is welcome!Further discussion is welcome!Father Ryan Erlenbushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07557817305024750902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-36089148063442619082010-04-03T12:55:52.827-07:002010-04-03T12:55:52.827-07:00One must recall that in Jewish tradition, the day ...One must recall that in Jewish tradition, the day begins at sunset. The Last Supper occurs early in a 24-hour period; and the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus occur late in the same 24-hour period, as His body is taken down from the cross before the start of the sabath at sunset.
TeaPot562Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-84144555838385411092010-04-03T11:56:21.060-07:002010-04-03T11:56:21.060-07:00that's a nice explanationthat's a nice explanationFailureIsNotFatalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09457739950594325641noreply@blogger.com
