II, xv) taught that precisely because they are secure in their salvation, and permanently united to God, that they have a greater love for Him than the wayfarers, although he did not concede that they are aware of our particular circumstances. The Tridentine doctor, Francisco Suárez (De poenit., disp. xlvii, s. 2, n. 9), Bellarmine’s contemporary and fellow Jesuit, asserts more. He argues thus: “that the souls in purgatory are holy, are dear to God, love us with a true love and are mindful of our wants; that they know in a general way our necessities and our dangers, and how great is our need of divine help and divine grace”.

In the Bull of Beatification of Blessed Mary of Divine Providence, Eugenie de Smet, around 1957, it is stated that "it is the mind of the Church that the souls in Purgatory can pray for us."

In the post-synodal apostolic exhortation Reconciliatio et paenitentia, St John Paul II states "Everything takes place between the individual alone and God. But at the same time one cannot deny the social nature of this sacrament [of Penance], in which the whole church-militant, suffering and glorious in heaven- comes to the aid of the penitent and welcomes him again into her bosom, especially as it was the whole church which had been offended and wounded by his sin."
How can "the Church suffering" that is, the souls in Purgatory come to the aid of poor sinners on earth? They cannot merit. But they can PRAY.

“Our prayer for them [i.e. the poor souls] is capable not only of helping them, but also of making their intercession for us effective.” (CCC 958) therefore THEY intercede.Fr PJMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12597780307057121375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-76510358844655283402017-10-15T13:32:28.656-07:002017-10-15T13:32:28.656-07:00Thank You for helping me understand the piercing o...Thank You for helping me understand the piercing of Our Lord's side in such a beautiful way!OmaWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02133958416137312719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-9132887932593809562017-10-03T08:30:15.734-07:002017-10-03T08:30:15.734-07:00http://www.corpusthomisticum.org/repedleo.html

I was rereading and comparing all mentions of all "Marys" and suddenly the thought came to me. "This is the same woman". As a woman with a repentant heart myself and in this part of my later life where I have completely given my life to my Lord & Savior, I can relate to finding her at His feet. I immediately thought to research the distance between Bethany and Magdala. It makes complete sense: she was sinful so she went a distance away. She was wealthy because of her sins: she had the oil to anoint Him. She loved Him, she repented, she returned to her family. This is all makes sense. She is the same: Mary originally from Bethany, life of sin in Magdala, then repented and we find with our Lord and her family. Present with her brother and sister. Also side note: following a sinful life and luxury, she would not have been inclined to do housekeeping over sitting at our Lords feet to hear Him speak. Whereas that was her sisters routine.

Printing this article to share.

Thank You,
ElizabethAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13254272909261496620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-31184710840814809262017-08-06T09:41:57.985-07:002017-08-06T09:41:57.985-07:00Can Catholics in danger of death receive Extreme U...Can Catholics in danger of death receive Extreme Unction/ Viaticum from an excommunicated rite such as the Eastern Orthodox if no Catholic priest is available? I could not find an image of the Visitation via google of the Orthodox Church. Firstly, let me say I have NOT been there; therefore, this is not conclusive evidence as perhaps there "could be" another image in any of these 3 churches that might depict St. Joseph there at the Visitation. Has anyone been there and can confirm please? But if there are no images of St. Joseph present at this event in the churches where it occurred, then I think that is a very important piece of the puzzle that has not yet been mentioned (as an image is worth a thousand words, especially as icons help to tell stories).

If that is true, that Joseph is not depicted in any of the images at the churches in Ain Karem of the Visitation event, coupled with how the Bible does not say he was present; then, it seems logical that one could conclude that Joseph was not there.

Personally, I'd prefer, as some commentators have said, to think that Joseph DID accompany Our Lady to Ain Karem, because that fits the image of the "strong and loving protector" of Joseph for the Holy Family that I have in my mind; however, if he's not mentioned as being there in Scripture nor in the icons or images there, then we ought not force this idea onto the scene. For it is very conceivable that the 3 angels depicted in the mosaic above the entrance to the Church of the Visitation were more than sufficient to protect Our Lady on her 90 mile journey from Nazareth to Ain Karem (and I'd like to think those 3 angels were Gabriel, Michael, and Rafael).

Alas, as a former Protestant I was usually black or white / either or on issues and now as a Catholic I see that many times the answer is both and; so, with that in mind, perhaps the answer is "both". Perhaps Joseph accompanied Our Lady part of the way (either he caught up to her after she left in haste or he took her to Jerusalem and then she continued the couple more miles from there to Ain Karem on her "own" or with another family member) to Elizabeth.

Alas, it could be that Joseph did not accompany Mary who went in hast on the first leg of her journey but he accompanied her on her return leg back home to Nazareth. This hypothesis would nicely unite both sides of the camp and work out the timing issue of the dream of Joseph and Mary leaving in haste and also show how God did the greater miracle of having Mary go "alone" on the journey (though she was surrounded by angels and had GOD with her! What other protection did she need?!) of 90 miles showing that "with God" indeed "all things are possible" and simultaneously helps to "protect" against "scandal" Joseph going with her on the 4 day journey which could cast some taint of "cohabitation" (at least on that journey) before he took her into his home.

The only thing we know for sure is that we don't know the answer yet. God is teaching us patience and humility and charity in the process. And this is part of the "fruit" of the "journey" that we ought not overlook also. :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-69891765782869308832017-05-12T09:46:35.350-07:002017-05-12T09:46:35.350-07:00Is it okay to do the fast the day before? I really needed this spiritual boost, especially as I'm trying to grow more Marian in my spirituality (and with your other talks, more Josephite). This will probably stay with me the rest of my life as I contemplate "He who sees Mary sees the Father," as the uniqueness of begetting the Son is only reflected in the Father and Mary. Simply amazing. Do you have any references for Saints who speak on this matter? I'm sure De Montfort or one of those Marian saints surely spoke on this.

I did a simple search online and came across Psalm 110:3, which many Church Fathers have quoted, and which Augustine gave a homily on: "From the womb I have begotten you before the morning star." Well, saying that God the Father has a "womb" is very feminie/Marian sounding, and Augustine says this has a double meaning, wherein God begat Jesus before the stars were created, while the other meaning is that Mary begat Jesus in the middle of the night.

This is similar to last year when the Marian lesson I was taught at the start of 2016 was the Finding of Jesus in the Temple, where after 3 days lost Mary found Jesus. Ambrose said that this foreshadowed the Passion, where Mary would lose Jesus for 3 days but get him back (and why She didn't go to the tomb to anoint his body). This just stuck with me all year and I think of it every time during the Joyful Mysteries.

I'm totally spreading the word on this.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01453168437883536663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5578980753063154388.post-63193561942796791712016-12-22T19:28:20.421-08:002016-12-22T19:28:20.421-08:00Thank u father. I am not with her because I work thousand miles away from home. I ask my brother to have my mom get the sacrament of anointing of the sick. After the priest left her hospital bed, my mom vomited a lot and she was cold, sweating, warm and chilling at the same time but she has no fever. Just 30 minutes after she feel a bit rested my family transferred her to a private hospital with a specialist doctors looking after her. In there she feels a lot better, so many improvements. Now my question is this, because this makes me think deeply into it. When she vomited after the anointing could it be possible, she was healed spiritually? When she vomit after the anointing I told my sibling it could be an evil who let her suffer and the anointing was healing her inside. Please enlighten me father. Thank you so much, I stumbled only in this side because I was looking for the anointing of the sick. I read your article about it and now I would like to ask questions but because I am new to this site I don't know how it will go. So i just ask here.
