If I love Jesus, I have to love him when, where, how, and as he wants me to love and obey him. I don't get to love him on my terms, but only on his terms.
This means that I cannot be "spiritual" without being religious - since the Lord said, "If you love me, keep my commandments."

Sermon from 3rd Sunday of Easter - On the Canonization of John XXIII and John Paul II
The canonization of John XXIII is the "canonization" of Vatican II, but the canonization of John Paul II is the "canonization" of a particular interpretation of Vatican II.
By canonizing the great John Paul II, good Pope Francis affirms the Church's teaching on contraception, the male-only priesthood, the practice of celibacy within the priesthood, and daily recitation of the Rosary (even holding the Rosary during Mass).
This is the Church called for by Vatican II!
